Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Thermotree and spruce?
Considering temperatures in the sauna, there are almost no differences between the two pieces of wood. Thermowood has the ability to absorb moisture, which results in a more stable product. This makes Termotre less likely to leak, crack, twist or swell with changes in humidity. All in all, thermal wood requires less maintenance than untreated spruce, and you also avoid anything that leaks out. Finally, thermowood has a discreet and attractive colour, which makes the wood desirable in itself. In addition, it is environmentally friendly, as no harmful chemicals are used during the heat treatment of the wood.
How big a furnace do I need for my sauna?
In the product description for each individual oven, you will find a recommended size of the sauna for that particular oven. When calculating the number of cubic meters in your sauna, we recommend calculating three extra cubic meters per square meter of glass or other cold surfaces in the sauna. This also applies to the glass door to the sauna, if you have one.
How do I get app control on my electric oven?
Most electric ovens require an external control panel to control the oven. If you choose the UKU Wifi or UKU 4g control panel, this control panel can be connected to your phone and you can control the oven wherever you are in the world.
The difference between UKU Wifi and UKU 4g is that UKU wifi must be connected to a Wifi network, while in UKU 4g a sim card is inserted and it is connected to the 4g network. In this way, the sauna can be controlled in places without access to wifi.
The UKU control panels are designed to be integrated with the stoves from Huum, but can also be connected to stoves from other brands such as Sawo.
Can I use the sauna as an annex when it is not in use?
Of course! In the summer, the sauna can become a lovely extra bedroom. If you are thinking of using the sauna as an annex in the winter too, we recommend going for an insulated model. These are, for example, the saunas from KUUT, Vingberg or YRRE. If you're not really that interested in a sauna, we can also make you a simple transportable camping cabin, with whatever furniture you need.
How much does it cost in electricity to run my sauna?
This depends on how powerful your oven is. In all the descriptions of our electric ovens, it is stated how powerful they are, for example 6kW, 9kW, 12kW etc...
A good rule to remember is that the sauna stove uses regardless of its effect the first hour to heat up the sauna, also half every hour thereafter to keep the sauna warm.
Let's take an example:
An oven with an output of 9kW uses approximately 9kWh to heat the sauna, also 4.5kWh every hour to keep it warm.
The average price for electricity in 2023 without deductions from electricity subsidies was 160.7 øre per kWh. We round this down to NOK 1.6 per kWh.
If you want to take a sauna for two hours, then you must calculate a total of 18kWh (9kWh to heat the sauna, 9kWh to keep it warm for two hours). This multiplied by the electricity price of NOK 1.6 gives us a total price of approx. NOK 29 per sauna session.
Do I need planning permission to put a sauna in the garden?
Our saunas are transportable, and usually do not require a building permit. There is nothing that distinguishes putting a sauna on the terrace from, for example, having a trampoline or an inflatable swimming pool. The saunas do not require permanent securing into the ground, and can easily be lifted up and moved to another location if desired. If you are unsure, we recommend consulting the municipality where you live, or putting the sauna on a trailer.
How do I prepare the place where the sauna will stand?
It is important to prepare the ground at the location, so that it can support the weight of the sauna. Preferably cast a foundation in concrete, or lay a terrace. It is also possible to lay a good foundation with gravel, or at least some bricks. The most important thing is that the sauna is on a surface that is level, and that it is preferably not in direct contact with living biological material. Help with planning or preparing the substrate is something we offer, and something we will talk to you about during the purchase process.
How do I get the sauna delivered?
We deliver saunas on a semi-trailer, and drive as close to your address as we get. If your address cannot be reached with a semi-trailer, we will find a solution for this in the purchase process.
We offer both saunas that are delivered ready-built or in construction kits. If you choose a ready-made sauna, this is so heavy that it must be placed in the right place with a crane, forklift or tractor. If you choose a building kit, this can be carried in part by part to the location, but the package itself is so heavy that it must also be lowered from the truck with a crane, forklift or tractor. In the purchase process, we agree with the customer whether they want to arrange the lift themselves, or whether we will do it for them. No assignment is too difficult, because we have access to professionals with cranes of all sizes, and can even help with helicopter delivery if needed.
